Market State

One of the questions posed to me daily in my practice is the state of the market. There is an overt focus on the relationship of the banks and the lending environment to the sale of small business. The concern though valid is based in large part on a fallacy that banks lend to small business. There was a popular commercial out several years ago showing a miniaturized business owner doing a presentation to a “bib banker”..vaguely resembling Mr. Potter from the classic Xmas movie ‘Its a Wonderful Life’. The cigar filled room and laughter of the bankers drowns out the business owner along with his dreams. This depiction is sad and funny but in some regard also true.
Of the almost 300 transactions my company serviced last year less than 5 were sba loans.
Lending in small business simply doesn’t happen and frankly should not be counted on.
But deals are done time and time again. What buyers and sellers alike must know is that what is being sold in large part is good will and better than 90% of the transactions done by my company have some component of owner financing.

Now as to market…deals are being done as the unemployed recognize that their futures are their own to master….and necessity as Ben Franklin once said ‘prom[pts’ man to do great things. Men and women are out there buying and selling and dreams are being made. For more on this visit my site at www.businesses4saleorlando.com or call me at 3212870349
